Region 3 endurance riders will hit the beautiful Diablo Trail in Walnut Creek, Calif., for the Region 3 Endurance Championship, June 27, 2009. For more information, click here.

Region 3 members participated in the WSHE June 12-14, 2009, in Sacramento, Calif. Arabians were presented daily in breed demonstrations, representing the diversity of disciplines within our breed. WSHE is a large promotional venue, and the breed and organization continue to have a wonderful presence.

Arabians in Motion Sport Horse Classic and the Region 4 Sport Horse Championships are August 7-9, 2009, at the DevonWood Equestrian Centre in Sherwood, Ore. Join us for 100 qualifying classes and 49 championships in carriage pleasure driving, dressage, hunter/jumper, sport horse in-hand, under saddle and show hack. Three days, five great judges and a gorgeous venue. Entries close July 7. Exhibitors from seven states and two Canadian provinces took part in a very successful Region 6 Championship Show, June 17-21, 2009 in Rapid City, S.D. Highlights included:

An increase in horses
A visit from AHA Executive Vice President, Glenn Petty
A working western division, which grew and attracted exhibitors from south Texas
Aimie Bonnain of Boulder, Colo., was the recipient of the perpetual Kris Forseth Trophy. Bonnain trains with Diane Underwood
Cash prize drawings up to $500, donated by Dr. Carlton Huit of the Wyoming Arabian Horse Association

Region 7 Elections are coming up—it is time to elect officers, show commissions and the Judges Commission. Ballots were mailed to delegates the week of June 22, 2009; a letter of procedures was included. This year delegates have a strong slate of candidates and several choices for each position. On this year's ballot, the Regional Director position will be open. Terry Andreasen has completed the four years allowed under the bylaws of AHA. It is important that voting delegates consider all the responsibilities the new director will take on, including running Region 7 business and representing Region 7 on the AHA Board of Directors. A successful candidate should be a strong person, skilled in business with experience in management at the local and regional level. Experience with the Arabian horse community at the national level is not critical, but it is a plus. Please discuss each candidate with your club or association in order to make informed decisions. Refer to the Region 7 website www.aha7.org where you can find governance documents and the bylaws that provide the job description and the roles and responsibilities of officers and commissions.

The Region 9 Sport Horse Championship Show will be July 9-12, 2009 at the Heart of Texas Fairgrounds in Waco, Texas. Information can be found at the Region 9 website.

The Youth Foundation Region 9 Inc. awarded $24,000 in college scholarships to three Region 9 youth during the Region 9 Championship Show. Annalise Himmel of Schriever, La., will receive $10,000 in scholarship funds; Caitlin Malik of Hammond, La., and Erin Springer of Siloam Springs, Ark., will receive $7,200 each. Congratulations to the young ladies!

The Eastern Arabian Horse Show celebrates its Golden Anniversary in 2009. One of the oldest continuous Arabian shows in the country adds a new locale with the Virginia Horse Center as the host July 29 - August 2, 2009. As for the "first," 2009 starts something new with the First Annual East Coast Youth Championships, July 29 - Aug. 2. Special trophies and awards have been produced specifically for Youth Classes and an outstanding panel of exhibitor-friendly judges includes, Bruce Bates, Scott Brumfield and Judy Warner.
