On April 5, 2005, a letter was written to AHA by Deborah Burda, the Director of Sales and Marketing at the Kentucky State Fair and Exposition Center (KFEC). The letter served as a "Notice of Construction" mandated by the facilities contract mutually agreed upon by KFEC and AHA. The letter stated that the Kentucky State budget was official and that renovation of the East Wing and East Hall would commence April, 2006, with a construction timeframe through November, 2007.

The East Wing houses 480 premium stalls and the entire Commercial Exhibit area, providing a critical space for the U.S. Nationals.

Additionally, the construction occurring at the East Wing during the 2006 U.S. Nationals would make the main thoroughfare for foot and auto traffic that borders the shed row barns inaccessible. This restricted access would further limit ease of movement at the show.

Alternatives that face the U.S. National Show Commission include:
  • Moving the premium stalling into tents
  • Locating all Commercial Exhibits in the South Wing
  • Looking for another venue
The U.S. National Show Commission is currently exploring various options including staying in Louisville with the restrictions, moving the show to Albuquerque or moving the show to Tulsa.

The U.S. National Show Commission is committed to handling this situation in a spirit of open communication and will make a concerted effort to keep AHA members apprised as decisions are made. Providing the highest quality U.S. Nationals experience for every owner, exhibitor and guest will be paramount throughout our decision-making process.

Respectfully,

The U.S. National Show Commission
