Vesicular Stomatitis Affects Horse Transport
The presence of vesicular stomatitis (VS) has been confirmed in horses from Texas, Colorado
and New Mexico. Horses that have health papers issued from these states will not be allowed
to enter Canada or Kentucky. Horses that are in transit through the affected states will
be stopped at the Canadian border and tested on the spot. If they are VS clear, they will
be allowed to enter Canada. There are no restrictions regarding the entry of horses into
New Mexico. For further information about VS, please contact the Animal and Plant Health
Inspection Service (APHIS) Emergency Programs Staff at 4700 River Rd, Unit 41, Riverdale,
MD 20737-1231 or phone 301-734-8073. Updates on current VS status nationally and for
individual states are available through the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service or from the Center for
Epidemiology and Animal Health 24-hour Voice Response Service at 1-800-545-8732.

If you're exhibiting at Youth Nationals, you can be a part of Arabian Horsepower! This is an exciting community outreach program for Albuquerque kids between ages 7 and 12 to learn about Arabian horses. Children will pick up a booklet at the AHA booth with a list of questions, games, trivia and more, plus a customized barn map including your barn should you wish to participate. Spots are limited. This program will take place one day only on Saturday afternoon, July 31. Come help promote your favorite breed! Here's how:
When do you ever pass up a chance to see beautiful Arabian horses up close? This year is your best opportunity to see top contenders during special "insider tours" in a new program just for the Arabian horse community. Several of the industry's most notable barns are opening their doors at this year's show to offer special presentations of their mares, stallions, yearlings and performance prospects. Nowhere can you see a better collection of champion horses all in one place. We invite you to Louisville this year to participate in these special tours for horsemen by horsemen. Don't miss it! Watch for tour times and barn participants in the August/September issue of Arabian Horse Magazine. This program is approved and sponsored by the AHA Market Development and Promotion Committee.
Are you "California dreamin" about Sport Horse Nationals? It's almost show time! This might be the year to showcase your horse in the SHN show program. The deadline for advertising is August 6. Contact advertising@ArabianHorses.org. Also, SHN entries close on August 4 with NO post entries allowed. Mail in your entries early for the best stalls, or become a Patron for only $750 and receive the best stalling in the place!
Contact lori.dutoit@ArabianHorses.org for more information.
If you're entering the Performance Futurities at U.S. Nationals, the third and last payment of $200 is due August 1. Call for additional options, 303-696-4500.

In an effort to support those who are actively riding and competing with Arabian horses outside the all-Arabian show arena, AHA recently signed an agreement with the American Endurance Ride Conference to become a Platinum Sponsor. The added visibility available to AERC sponsors will heighten AHA's presence among the endurance riding segment. AERC released recent statistics that show more than 80 percent of their riders use Arabian, Half-Arabian or Anglo-Arabian horses. This sponsorship is approved and sponsored by the AHA Market Development and Promotion Committee.
The United States Department of Agriculture will hold a series of listening sessions across the country to discuss the development, structure and implementation of a national animal identification program for all livestock and poultry animals. You might want to tune in.
