Triple Crown Underway
The Arabian Racing Cup's inaugural Triple Crown series for 4 year olds, sponsored by Markel/Pratt Insurance, got off to an exciting start at Los Alamitos on January 21. Delphine, who lost her first race ever in the Daughters of the Desert Oaks Trial, bounced back to narrowly defeat the winner of that trial, B J Zell. The bay filly, owned by Guy Neivens, managed to hold off the late charge of Bryan Braithwaite's filly to win by a short head. Longshot Night Tunes, owned by Felix Payne, was third. Bobbie McAlister trains the daughter of Calin De Louve x Morning Star V. She has now won five of her six races and earned over $97,000.

Diane Waldron's TH Richie (Calin De Loup x Char Rich Louise) easily won the Drinkers of the Wind Derby (G1) giving Waldron and trainer Phil Saxer, Jr. an unprecedented fourth win in a row in this race. He took home over $51,000 of the $121,800 purse. Darley Stable's Feeling Good was 6 ½ lengths back in second and Eagle One, owned by Arnold and Gail Bardin, was third. TH Richie now has 7 wins from 10 starts with earnings of over $130,000.

The next races, the Diamond Derby (G1) and Sapphire Sprint (G1), will be at Sam Houston Race Park in Houston, Texas, on April 2. TH Richie is nominated to the Diamond Derby (G1), but Delphine is not in the Sapphire Sprint (G1). That means there will be no filly to sweep the three races this year.

The final leg, the Bob Magness Derby (G1) and Cre Run Oaks (G1) will be at Delaware Park in Wilmington, Delaware. Dates for these races are still pending. A $100,000 bonus waits for TH Richie if he can sweep all three races.
